It’s a real family business at the new Atlantic Creamery, 4066 S. Ridgewood Ave. in the Port Orange Plaza, where dad, mom, children and grandparents are behind the counter scooping 40 flavors of Hershey’s Ice Cream.

Owners Rich and Chrystal Meyer said they had always wanted to own their own business and loved ice cream. So they combined the passions and after a lot of research, opened the shop August 21 at the corner of Ridgewood and Dunlawton avenues.

“The reasons I wanted to start the business are right there,” Rich Meyer said, pointing to his two children at the Chamber of Commerce Ribbon Cutting on Oct. 17. Meyer explained that he traveled a lot while working for City Electric for 18 years.

“I didn’t get to spend the time with them I should have,” he said.

Now the family works together at the ice cream shop, which offers milkshakes, banana splits, sundaes, chili dogs, fresh pies, Nathan’s Hot Dogs and other items such as coffee with a scoop of ice cream.

The Port Orange South Daytona Chamber of Commerce congratulated them at the ribbon cutting along with Mayor Donald Burnette.
