About 180 runners, many decked out in red, white and blue garb, gathered at Marineland to participate in the fourth-annual GratitudeAmerica 5K on Saturday, June 17. A half-mile Fun Run for children age 10 and under was new to the event.
Proceeds from the race will benefit Gratitude America's Military Support Retreats, which provide crucial help for veterans and their support persons in different relaxing environments.
GratitudeAmerica Executive Director Michael Anthony said the organization earned $4,000 from this race, which is right on par for what the nonprofit needs to make the retreats happen.
"We're going to take the proceeds from this race and fund a partial retreat here in Marineland in August," Anthony said.
The retreat will allow veterans and a loved one of their choice find a healing escape free of charge.
"The businesses and people in Flagler County are very supportive of veterans and GratitudeAmerica, and we're extremely grateful for their support and philanthropy," Anthony said.
