The Flagler Sportsfishing Club presented a $5,000 check to Family Life Center Finance Director Tammy Sanner on July 11 at the VFW Post 8696.
The club reeled in the funding at the 21st-annual Spring Classic Tournament on April 22 — made up of registration fees and a silent auction — to benefit FLC, which supports services to individuals and families to end domestic and sexual violence in Flagler County.
With 106 participants in the tournament, Flagler Sportsfishing Club Director Mike Crotts said the club was happy to raise what they did for FLC.
In the last year, FLC has has served over 500 men, women and children in Flagler County, provided 9,949 bed nights in its shelter and handled over 550 crisis calls on its 24-hour hotline, Sanner said.
She said FLC relies on donations from the community to continue its services.
“Although we are grant funded, many of our grants will not provide the grant funding without matching support from our community,” Sanner said. “So this $5,000 will bring in $25,000 to $30,000 in matching grant funds that we not be able to receive without it.”
Following in his father’s footsteps, Will Rockey, D.M.D, has joined the Cypress Point Family Dentistry team. His father, Dr. Pat Rockey, started this practice with longtime friend Dr. Padge Dorné in 1983.
As a Flagler Beach resident during childhood, Will said he is excited to be back in the Palm Coast area.
“It’s just nice to come back somewhere where people know you and where there are familiar faces,” Will said. “It’s back in the comfort zone.”
Will attended the University of Florida for his bachelor’s and master’s degrees and for dental school. He now resides in St. Augustine and officially started at the family dentistry located on 105 Cypress Point Parkway on Monday, July 10.
New chief medical officers were announced for Florida Hospital Flagler in Palm Coast and Florida Hospital New Smyrna in New Smyrna Beach, according to a press release.
Dr. Mark Kilman is the new CMO for Florida Hospital Flagler, and Dr. Ronald Thomas is the new CMO at Florida Hospital New Smyrna.
Throughout the month of June, the Florida Hospitals in Volusia and Flagler counties hosted free skin cancer screenings. Together, 130 patients were screened for skin cancer. Nearly 30% of those patients needed follow-up care for lesion testing, according to a press release.
Six Flagler Palm Coast High School graduates received scholarships from the University Women of Flagler. UWF awarded five $3,000 scholarships and one scholarship for the same amount that was sponsored by the family of member Jo Dervan in memory of her late husband.
The scholarship winners and their prospective universities are: Abby Duquette, Wake Forest University; Cassandra Gubala, Nova Southeastern University; Elizabeth Kirkconnel, University of North Florida; Micayla Lavaglio, Florida State University; Krisha Edlene Louis, University of Miami; and Ivana Celeste Moore, Colombia University.

During the Flagler Beach Rotary Installation Banquet on July 7, Roseanne Stocker was named Rotarian of the Year. The Rotary Club is also nominating Stocker for the Brent Williams Spirit of Rotary Award because of her “Project Share Christmas” program, which she started in 2001 when she joined the Rotary Club of Flagler Beach. The project has provided gifts to about 1,300 children over the last 16 years.
The Rotary Cub also created a new award this year: the Volunteer of the Year. It was awarded to past president Cindy Dalecki’s late husband, Dave Dalecki. He was a not a member of the Rotary Club, but he volunteered every month by grilling at First Friday on Flagler Beach and helping with food to feed families in need on a monthly basis, Cindy said. The award will be named the Dave Dalecki Volunteer of the Year award in the future.
Palm Coast resident Stephanie Rast was recently recognized by the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution as the national winner in the family category for her essay titled “A Caregiver's Journey.” The essay depicts the twenty years Rast has spent caring for her husband, who has Parkinson's disease. The award was presented at the NSDAR annual Continental Congress in Washington, D.C. on June 30. Stephanie is a member of the Old Kings Highway Chapter of the DAR where she serves as the chair for veteran's services and for public relations.
