Ormond Beach resident Timothy Joseph Lane died after being struck by a vehicle on West Granada Boulevard on Friday, Dec. 15, just one week after 54-year-old Stanley Ray Cannon was killed after being run over by a pickup truck on Bryant Street on Dec. 8.

Similar to Cannon who was sitting in the shoulder of the street before rolling into the pickup's path, police report Lane, 60, was lying far into the middle of the roadway when he was struck by a Mercedes-Benz around 7:21 p.m. The driver told police she was driving at approximately 30 mph when she saw something in the road. She added that there was low visibility in the area.

Police believe Lane, who had a cane on his person at the time of the accident, somehow fell into the road and couldn't get up.

The driver attempted to swerve to the right to avoid hitting Lane, but was unsuccessful and ran over him. Lane was not lying in a designated pedestrian crossing area.

Lane was transported to Florida Memorial Hospital for his injuries, where he was pronounced dead at 7:53 p.m.
