A Dolly Parton Imagination Library is closer to becoming a reality for children in Port Orange thanks to a $3,000 check that was donated to the Early Learning Coalition of Flagler and Volusia on Friday, Nov. 29.

The donation came from the Port Orange Community Trust.

The coalition needs to reach a goal of $10,000 to expand the reading program into Port Orange.

ELCFV officials hope to start mailing books to children within the Port Orange community by January 1, 2018. The coalition has $3,500 more to raise in order to reach the $10,000 goal by the end of the year.

The nationwide library program mails books to registered children each month without charging families no matter their income. In Port Orange, the program would service children from birth to kindergarten on or before January 1, 2014.

If children enroll at birth they will receive 60 books in the mail by the time they go to Kindergarten.

This past October, the Port Orange Community Trust reached a goal of $1 million in funds that they have given back to the community.
