Ormond Beach residents interested in learning how local police operates can enroll in the 35th Citizen Police Academy, hosted by the Ormond Beach Police Department.
The program lasts five weeks, and is designed to give locals a look into what their police do on a daily basis through series of demonstrations, lectures, tours and hands-on activities. The Citizen Police Academy will meet every Tuesday from 6-8 p.m., starting September 19 through October 19 at the Ormond Beach Police Department located at 170 W. Granada Blvd. The program is free and is open to those over the age of 18.
Some of the subjects that will be covered during the Citizen Police Academy include crime scene investigations, use of force and how to respond when there is an active shooter presence. The program will also feature a ride along with an OBPD officer.
Ormond Beach Police Department Officer Andrew Bayne was recognized on Aug. 18 as the department’s most productive members during the national “Click it or Ticket” campaign.
“Click it or Ticket” ran from May 22 to June 4 and is coordinated by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Bayne received a Safety Recognition for his efforts to enforce proper use of seat belts during the campaign.
NHTSA estimates seat belts have saved about 344,447 lives in a 40-year period from 1975-2015.
