Halifax Humane Society is currently not in need of public volunteers to help restore the facility. The shelter did sustain some damage from Hurricane Matthew, but the staff is still working to fully assess all damage.
One animal did die of natural causes during the storm, but all other animals and staff, while exhausted, are doing well and being cared for around the clock.
At this time the Halifax Humane Society shelter phones are operational, and staff requests people with missing or lost pets to contact HHS via email or private message on Facebook with complete information (including photo) of the missing pet. They also advise to also call to the facility to determine if the animal has been returned.
The same goes for all found animals, and if you are bringing a found animal that was lost during Hurricane Matthew, please let the staff know upon intake.
Halifax Humane Society is asking the public to help with post-Hurricane Matthew efforts through donations in-kind and monetary. The following supplies are what is most needed at this time:
The Halifax Humane Society is now open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., but they are unable to take owner surrenders at this time. The dog park, Redinger Clinic, and thrift store are still closed.
All Halifax Humane Society Storm Troopers will be receiving a call from the foster coordinator regarding furry friend return.
