The Philippine American Association of Palm Coast (PAAPC), celebrated the 118th anniversary of Philippine Independence from Spain, on Saturday, June 4 at the Palm Coast VFW. There were 150 PAAPC members and friends at the celebration.

Aida Seguritan was the event chairwoman and Virgie Makahiya was the Master of Ceremonies. PAAPC President Sally Siroy spoke about the history of the Philippine Independence from Spain, and the United States involvement in those events.

During dinner, folk dance performances of “Katalana” (choreographed by Beth Stevens), and a medley of “Malaguena” and “Pandanggo Sa Ilaw” (choreographed by Mila Aromin), were performed.

Ernesto Perez of the Jacksonville Knights of Rizal gave the keynote address.

The Flagler County Philippine Independence Week proclamation was presented to Siroy by county commissioner Nate McLaughlin.

A Filipiniana Fashion Show of formal and native outfits worn by the members, and a group sing along of “Bayan Ko” (“My Country”) the unofficial Philippine national anthem, concluded the event.
