A Flagler Beach house caught fire in the early morning hours June 5 and burned until only the shell of the home remained standing.
Firefighters responded to the house at about 3 a.m., but believed the fire had already been burning in the house for a while when they got the call, Flagler Beach Fire Department Captain Bobby Pace said.
The owner of the house, at 1539 S. Daytona Ave., was out of town, and there were no people or pets inside.
At least 15 firefighters arrived on six different fire trucks and fought the fire defensively, Pace said. They used the Flagler Beach Fire Department's new quint truck to help stop the flames from spreading.
"Using the new aerial device on that, they were able to keep it to the one structure, but it was a total loss at that point," Pace said.
Fire inspectors believe the fire started somewhere around the ceiling of the home's living room, Pace said. The cause has not been determined.
Firefighters responded on Flagler County Engine 16, Flagler Beach Ladder 11, Flagler County Engine 92, Palm Coast Engine 25, Flagler County Rescue 11 and Flagler County Rescue 92. The Flagler Beach Fire Police also responded, Pace said.
The fire on South Daytona Avenue was the second residential fire within Flagler Beach in three days.
On the evening of June 3, a multifamily structure on the northwest corner of Oceanshore Boulevard and North Ninth Street caught fire. The flames left the structure of that building intact, but destroyed its electrical system, displacing four residents.
