Vietnam veteran plaques to be displayed

Three commemorative plaques containing the names of 144 Ormond Beach Vietnam Era veterans will be placed on the first floor of City Hall in the next few weeks, according to a city spokeswoman.

Nearly 100 Vietnam Era veterans from Ormond Beach attended a ceremony at the Performing Arts Center on April 6 where city officials presented a tribute for their service to the country, according to the spokeswoman.

Mayor Ed Kelley delivered a proclamation, declaring April 6, 2016, as a day to celebrate Vietnam Era veterans in Ormond Beach and remember their service.

Each veteran in the audience rose and gave their name and branch of service, with some also telling a story.

There are currently plaques at City Hall honoring veterans of World War II and the Korean War.

New pediatric clinic opens

Florida Hospital for Children has opened a pediatric specialty clinic on the fourth floor of Florida Hospital Memorial Medical Center’s medical office building at 305 Memorial Medical Parkway, Suite 408, Daytona Beach. The specialists will relocate from their current location at the Pavilion at Port Orange.

This same floor is home to Florida Hospital Memorial Medical Center’s obstetrical practice, Women’s Care OB/GYN and is adjacent to the BirthCare Center and a planned neonatal intensive care unit, which is expected to open this summer.

The addition of the specialty clinic gives mothers convenient access to services, said Becky Vernon, director of women and children’s services.

At 6 p.m. on April 26, families are invited to meet the pediatric specialists, pediatricians and specialists from the BirthCare Center and Women’s Care OB/GYN, according to a press release.
