Ormond Memorial Art Museum celebrates its Fashion Camp with runway show.
Polka dots, denim vests and kitty cats were just a few of the themes for this year’s Fashionista Summer Camp. Held at the Ormond Memorial Art Museum, this week-long camp teaches young kids how to make an idea come to life.
“This camp is not a tailoring camp or a learn-how-to-sew camp,” Museum Director Susan Richmond said. “This is all about creativity.”
Twenty girls signed up for this year’s camp to create outfits of their own designs. With the help of museum staff and volunteers, these young ladies experienced not only what it was like to walk the runway, but to create it.
“These girls came Monday with an idea, a thought in their head,” Richmond said. “They got to learn about problem solving and compromising because maybe we didn’t have the fabric they were envisioning. They learned about collaboration. We saw many of the girls working together. It was a great week.”
