Knights of Columbus raise $4,000 for special needs programs

The funds were raised through a Tootsie Roll campaign.

Five Ormond Beach schools and two charities serving people with developmental disabilities are beneficiaries of $4,000 in grants from the annual Campaign for Citizens with Disabilities Fund Drive held by Knights of Columbus Prince of Peace Council 8791. The grants are from the proceeds the council earned by selling Tootsie Rolls at area stores and Prince of Peace Catholic Church earlier in the year. It is the Knight’s largest annual fundraiser.

“Through the efforts of our council members and the generosity of area residents and visitors, we are pleased to again provide much needed funds to help local students and citizens with learning and developmental challenges,” said Kevin Tilley, grand knight of Council 8791. “We would also like to thank Publix, Walmart and Winn-Dixie for again this year giving us access to their storefronts and customers.”

This year’s grant recipients are The ARC of Volusia and the special education programs at Osceola Elementary, Tomoka Elementary, Pine Trail Elementary, Pathways Elementary, and Ormond Beach Middle School. A contribution was also made to a statewide Knights of Columbus charity that helps working people with disabilities who live independently.
