Ronald Titus, 30, a member of the Flagler County Fire Rescue wildfire mitigation team, has been deployed to California to battle the wildfires in Hayfork.

“It's an 18-day deployment,” Fire Rescue Chief, Don Petito said. “This is the third time in his four years with us, that he has gone out west to fight wildfires.”

Titus, along with a team of firefighters from the Florida Forest Service, are working the “Fork Complex Wildfires.”

“Many of the fires within the Fork Complex are challenging, because of extremely steep and rugged terrain, which makes access difficult in certain ares for direct attack strategies,” Petito said. “The Fork Complex Fire ha grown to 15,184 acres and is only 9-percent contained.”

Currently there are 30 major wildfires burning in California, with 1,349 firefighters assigned to to the Fork Complex Fires.

Titus, who lives in Palm Coast, with his wife and two children, has fought fires in Idaho and Washington state. He was hired by Flagler County in January 2011.
