The first Teddy Bear Picnic was held at the Anderson-Price Memorial Building.
Cuddling teddy bears in their arms, the children attending the Ormond Beach Historical Society’s Teddy Bear Picnic listened to the stories told by Diana Simmons.
“What do gopher turtles do?” she asked the wide-eyed crowd. “They dig!”
The children followed her digging motions with diligence and smiles.
This was the first event of its kind presented by the society, and Simmons said their will be more.
“We wanted to do something for the kids,” the historical society president said. “It’s good for them to be around other children, and it’s just fun.”
