Decent aim, lousy judgment

5:35 p.m. First block of Perotti Place. Criminal mischief.
A woman called the Sheriff’s Office to report that someone has repeatedly shot out streetlights that she had installed, and pays for, in front of her home.

She told a deputy it happened at least three times in the past two months, though she had never contacted law enforcement about it before.

The deputy noted in an incident report that the lights did appear to be shot out, but wasn’t able to find shell casings, bb’s or pellets.

The woman had never seen the streetlight shooter, and couldn’t give a specific time frame for the crime. The deputy gave her a case card.

Breaking in, breaking out

9:01 p.m. First block of Memorial Medical Parkway. Escape attempt.
A man arrested after trying to break into an apartment complex March 19 — in one case using a porcelain statue to try to knock down a door — tried to make a break for it the next day.

Deputies had taken the man to the hospital for medical clearance.

He was lying on a stretcher with his hands handcuffed and legs shackled when he saw an open door bolted off the stretcher to run for the exit, according to a Sheriff's Office report.

A deputy got ahold of him and secured him to the stretcher again, this time with plastic flex cuffs around the ankles.

The man was cleared at the hospital and returned to the county jail with an additional charge for attempted escape.
