Ormond Beach kids celebrated the end of the school year with some crafting at the Ormond Memorial Art Museum.
The end of the school year signifies a few things: the start of summer, the end of the homework and the need for bean crafting.
Local kids celebrated the season change Friday at the Ormond Memorial Art Museum’s Free Family Art Night where they created turtles, houses and stars out of a bag of beans.
Linda King, artist liaison, said the project was a good introduction to mosaics for kids.
“It’s a fun thing for young people to get into,” King said, “and you don’t have to worry about them cutting themselves on sharp tile.”
King, who has been working at the museum since 1997, said the Free Family Art Nights are a great way to keep the community involved in art museums.
“It introduces a lot of people to the art museum that normally might not think to come here,” King said. “It let’s everyone know we are child-friendly. Which is a good thing because we want children to be familiar with art museums at a young age. So it serves a purpose.”
