Flagler’s Take Stock in Children scholars, along with alumni of the program, stood to recite an affirmation at a dinner meant to celebrate the program and its students.

“We know we are fortunate to receive your investment of time, money and care,” they read from the evening’s program. “Even though it may seem like we’re not listening sometimes, we are listening and watching what you do for us each day. We look forward to the future. One day we’ll help others find their path to college.”

Take Stock in Children is a statewide program that works in partnership with Flagler County Education Foundation to send at-risk students to college. Students are selected in eighth grade and receive mentoring, case management and a college scholarship upon successful completion of the program. Students must qualify and are selected through an application process.

The program currently has 76 scholars from both Matanzas and Flagler Palm Coast high schools, classes 2014-2017. Since 2002, the foundation has awarded 95 scholarships valued at $906,959, with 89% of students successfully completing the program and attending college.

Seniors in Take Stack are as follows: FPC: Latasha Christian, Tyisha Fullwood, Alexandra Haines, Jessica Kutsyhina, Brittany Lewis, Shelby Sullivan, Paige Thomas, Pedro Vega and Daisha Williams; and Matanzas: Joshua Anderson-Ortiz, Connor Crider, Bobbianne Jones, Moises Meza, Cheyenne Moore-Hall, Michaela Turner and Daniel Wright.
