The following is an adapted news release from the Flagler County Sheriff's Office:

Flagler Sheriff’s deputies conducted a DUI checkpoint Friday, Dec. 19, at State Road 100, East of Old Kings Road.

A total of 208 motor vehicles passed through the checkpoint with an average delay of one minute and 48 seconds per vehicle.

Four DUI arrests were made throughout the checkpoint and one DUI arrest was brought to the checkpoint from road patrol for the purpose of conducting the DUI investigation.

Deputies issued 14 written warnings, five non-moving uniform traffic citations, two moving violation citations, one open container, five criminal uniform traffic citations, and made two arrests for possession of marijuana.

“Five impaired drivers were removed from our roadways Friday night resulting in a safer community for all,” Sheriff James L. Manfre said. “These individuals may have had to wake up in jail, but they woke up knowing they weren’t the cause of a serious accident,” he added.

This checkpoint is part of the agency's continued efforts to curb traffic fatalities, injuries and crashes and to emphasize its commitment to make county roadways safe.

The operation is being funded by a $100,000 grant recently received by the Sheriff’s Office from the Florida Department of Transportation.

In 2013, the agency received $70,000 from the FDOT to fund a similar initiative aimed at taking intoxicated drivers off of county roadways.
