After Santa looked at his list and checked it twice, 100 Flagler County children who were found to be nice were paired with law enforcement officers for the annual Christmas with a Deputy program.

The Flagler County Sheriff’s Office has partnered with Target for the past seven years to bring a little holiday spirit and cheer into the lives of some less fortunate children. The evening began at the Chiumento law office building at City Place in the Town Center, where participating children received donated gift bags filled with goodies, played games and made ornaments.

“Giving back to the community and seeing the smiling faces of children is what the holiday season is all about,” said Sheriff James L. Manfre.

The program is made possible by donations received from the community and from law enforcement. Children were able to purchase holiday gifts for family, friends and themselves. Names of children who qualified for the event were submitted through suggestions from Sheriff’s Office members along with Flagler County School District staff.

“Target is a proud sponsor of this event and we look forward to seeing the children pick out their own gifts,” said Target Executive Team Leader Brett Crum.

In addition to Sheriff’s deputies, children shopped with law enforcement officers from the Flagler Beach Police Department, Bunnell Police Department, Florida Highway Patrol and Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission officers. Santa visited with the children and his elves helped wrap presents.
