Red Lobster in Daytona Beach Shores recently donated a grand to a charity that benefits the kids at Osceola Elementary School.

The kids at Osceola Elementary School are far from going hungry thanks to Darden Restaurants and Blessings in a Backpack.

The Red Lobster in Daytona Beach Shores recently donated $1,000 to the local chapter of the charity implemented by Megan Godfrey three years ago to feed Osceola Elementary School children who are on the federal free and reduced meal program. Kids are given a backpack of food for the weekend for the 38 weekends during the school year. The meals are easy to prepare and ready to eat.

Godfrey graduated Seabreeze High School last year and has passed the charity down to Grace Genereaux, a freshman at Spruce Creek High School and Madison McIntyre, a sophomore at Seabreeze High School. They alternate months purchasing and distributing the food to 22 students at Osceola Elementary.

The donation was a part of Darden’s Restaurant Community Grants program.

“This donation will help our program grow and we will be able to feed more children in the 2014-2015 school year,” Godfrey said. “We are so grateful.”
