Old Kings Elementary welcomed the kindergarten students with a getting-to-know-the-school gingerbread activity.

Kim Weeks, media specialist, read "The Gingerbread Man" to the students while the kindergarten teachers acted out the scenes. Then, the students made their own gingerbread men in the cafeteria. As the gingerbread men were cooking, the kindergarten students discovered that the gingerbread men escaped from the oven.

The students had to search all over the school to find them. Upon searching, the students learned where the nurse's office, principal's office, library, cafeteria and teachers' classrooms were located.

Later in the week, the students were surprised to find that the Gingerbread Man was spotted running throughout the school, which was actually P.E coach Josh Ward dressed in a Gingerbread Man costume. The kids were so excited to see the Gingerbread Man and tried to catch him before he got into any more trouble.

Flagler Adult and Community Education helps non-profits secure grant funding
Currently many not-for-profit institutions are struggling to secure funding to support their programs to aid others in Flagler County and surrounding areas. Adult & Community Education is now offering a course, “Obtaining Grants and Donations: Strategies That Work,” which could be of considerable aid in dealing with that challenge.

The two-session class will meet 9 a.m. to noon Sept. 7 and 14, and is being led by Dr. Robert Sweeney.

“For many years I have been giving invited lecture discussions across the United States dealing with the same subject matter that I will be relating in this course,” Sweeney said. “The most rewarding aspect of those efforts are the expressions of gratitude that I receive from the attendees of those session who used my advice to secure their initial grants.”

Those interested in enrolling should call Flagler Adult & Community Education at 446-6717 and mention section number 12FA442. Cost of the class is $45 and is limited to 12 attendees to assure individualized attention.
