The final race of year 4 of the Where the Wild Ones Run series took place Saturday morning, May 30, at Graham Swamp Trail in Palm Coast, wrapping up a three-race season that brought young runners of all ages onto Flagler County's trails this spring.
The Wild Boar Run sent kids ages 3-14 through one of the area's most exciting courses, full of twists, turns, roots, rocks and both climbs and descents along a mix of hiking and mountain bike trail.
Distances ranged from under half a mile for the youngest runners to 3 miles for the 10-14 age groups, with every finisher earning a wooden medal and top finishers in each age group recognized with awards.
The series, which also included races at Princess Place Preserve and Mala Compra Trails, was designed to introduce kids to the joy and challenge of off-road running in a supportive, community-centered environment.
The event was produced by Elevate Event Company, which also offers sponsored entries for families for whom registration cost is a barrier, and has been collecting donations to purchase running shoes for kids in need. Information on future events can be found at elevateeventcompany.com.
