Red high heels were the designated walking shoes Saturday morning at The Family Life Center’s second-annual Walk a Mile in Her Shoes.

The event drew a crowd of almost 200 people and raised approximately $4,300 that will help support victims of domestic violence/sexual assault.

The men of After Hours Healthcare were recognized as the first to finish their mile walk, still sporting their stilettos. And the Flagler County High Steppers, who were all Flagler County employees, were awarded the Most Swag award. Other awards are as follows: Top Fundraiser, Palm Coast Plantation CARES; Best Participants, Matanzas High School Junior ROTC; and No. 1 Volunteers, Agnes and Ralph Lightfoot.

“We are very pleased with the community support of our annual Walk a Mile in Her Shoes event and look forward to more participants next year,” said Executive Director Trish Giaccone.

From Jan. 1, 2013, through Sept. 30, 2013, The Family Life Center has served 145 women and 116 children in their emergency shelter; 75 women, four men and 29 children in their outreach offices; as well as five families in their transitional housing program. The Family Life Center has also answered 341 crisis hotline calls in the same time period.

Victims of domestic violence/sexual assault who need services can call the crisis hotline 24 hours a day, 7 days a week at 437-3505. To inquire about volunteering or donations, call the administrative line at 437-7610.
