As Summer approaches and Flagler County schools take a break, a new youth-oriented organization is offering some supervised activities.

“I am proud to announce that the Flagler Sheriff Police Athletic League has been chartered and is offering a variety of programs for our youngsters,” said Sheriff James L. Manfre.

This new Flagler Sheriff PAL is affiliated with the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office. Flagler County PAL, an existing organization, is no longer connected to the Sheriff’s Office.

“We are heading into a new direction. It is my hope that we will soon unify under one philosophy to operate the Flagler Sheriff PAL so we can better serve our community,” Manfre said.

The first program kicks off with Dusk with Deputies: Fun in the Park. This program is being offered from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. starting June 20 for youth in grades 3 to 8. For $25, children will be supervised by two or more deputies and other volunteers as they play games and watch demonstrations. Scholarships are available and similar nights will happen throughout the summer.

“There are plans to expand the programs to include travel baseball, basketball, track, dodge ball and, in partnership with the Flagler County School District, after school programs,” said Kim Hale, director of the program.

Flagler Sheriff PAL already is partnering with the school district to offer the Flagler Sheriff’s Leadership Academy, Junior Police Academy and the Explorers and Sheriff Ranch Camps.

The Flagler Sheriff’s Office PAL will have programs that build the relationship between children and deputies, according to Sheriff Manfre.
