Chamber installs Sowers, awards businesses

There was a new sheriff in town Friday night, Jan. 25, at the Flagler County Chamber of Commerce & Affiliates 2013 Installation Celebration. Incoming chamber board chairman Scott Sowers was dressed for the role with his cowboy hat and sheriff star at the Diamonds and Denim themed evening.

“Our work is far from done,” Sowers said when addresses the room. “I hope all of you will help me move another mountain or two in 2013.”

In addition to installing Sowers and the new board members, local businesses and business people were also recognized at the affair. Henry “Red” Gensch, was recognized with the Lifetime Membership Award. New Member of the Year was awarded to Joe and Heidi Tassone, of J & H Junk Removal and Small Business of the Year was awarded to Alliance Financial Partners, Inc. The Palm Coast Observer was awarded Big Business of the Year from the Flagler County Chamber.

Each affiliate also recognized a Business Person of the Year. Bunnell recognized Alicia Washington, of Alicia R. Washington, P.A.; Flagler Beach recognized Joseph Pozzuoli, of Joseph Pozzuoli Architect; Palm Coast recognized Jason Johnson, of Marlin Consulting Solutions; and the Young Professionals Group recognized Ron Hertel, of Chiumento, Selis & Dwyer P.L.

In closing the evening, immediate past chair Gary Lubi called on country music artist Jason Aldean to express how he felt: “It sure left it’s mark on us, we sure left our mark on it. We let the world know we were here, with everything we did. We laid a lot of memories down, and we’ll always be hangin’ around, like tattoos on this town.”
