More than 300 girls dressed in their best evening attire and twirled around the dance floor Friday, Feb. 22, as Heartland’s hit country song, “I Loved Her First,” played. Their dance partner: their fathers.

This was the scene of a very packed father-daughter dance at Belle Terre Elementary School. The dance was open to all girls in kindergarten through sixth grade and included a pasta dinner catered by Bella’s Tomato Pie and served by the Matanzas High School culinary students.

The dance, put on by the Parent Teacher Organization, was the first of its kind and aimed simply for a fun night out for dads and daughters. A mother-son event is still in the works and is being planned for the spring.
