More than 200 Belle Terre Elementary School students participated in math night Wednesday, Feb. 20, and Thursday, Feb. 21, at Publix in Belle Terre Crossing.

Students in kindergarten through sixth grade had the opportunity to come with their parents and complete a grade-level specific math worksheet based on real world, hands-on math by using products and prices in the store.

“It’s really great to see the families working with the kids, working on math problems together,” said second-grade teacher Natalie Muldoon. “It’s a nice, easy night out.”

One mother who took advantage of the night was Terri Callahan, who brought her children, ages 8, 9 and 11.

“It is so much fun for the kids,” she said. “They really do learn the math, and they understand that all those hot dog buns really do go with all those hot dogs.”
