The Flagler County Art League will open its February show, the second-annual Art & Poetry Show, with a reception 6-9 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 9, at the gallery, 160 Cypress Point Parkway, Suite 207C.
All the art and poetry will be aimed at interpreting the theme “All About Light.” The winning poetry will be presented in readings by the authors beginning at 6:30 p.m. and the art awards will be presented at 7:30 p.m. Art will be judged by Tom Anastasio and poetry will be judged by Gene Murphy, B.J. Alligood and Dan Pels.
The show is free, open to the public and will hang the entire month.
“If last year was any indication, be prepared to be moved not only by the art but most certainly by the amazing poetry,” said Bob Ammon, director of gallery shows and exhibits.
The league will sponsor a “Match a Poem People’s Choice” competition, during which visitors at the opening will vote for poems written specifically to go with individual art in the exhibition.
To participate in this poetry/art match-up, poets are invited to visit the gallery between noon and 4 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 7, prior to the show opening and select a piece of art to write about.
Email poems to Stephanie Salkin at [email protected] by Friday afternoon, Feb. 8. A prize will be awarded to the poet who gets the most votes.
