Flagler County women flocked to the European Village Wednesday, April 24, for Sassy Heels and Sparkling Wine, presented by the Women’s Initiative of United Way of Volusia/Flagler Counties.

The event, which also launched the group's Chicks with Cans project, was co-hosted by husband and wife Larry and Jodie Lass, owners of Panache Woman’s Shoes and Accessories and La Piazza Café.

“Jodi has been so amazingly generous,” said Donna Murray, president of the Women’s Initiative. “Jodi typically sells out in an event like this, and Larry feeds everyone, but it also lets people know what kinds of food he has, so it’s nice advertising for the European Village.”

But more than that, the event is about reaching out and helping the community. Chicks with Cans, the Women’s Initiative of Flagler’s canned food drive team, have a goal to collect more than 80,000 pounds this year.

The group will host its annual Power of the Purse fundraiser Aug. 28, at Hammock Dunes Club.
