A man making a sharp turn at an intersection while pulling a trailer behind his SUV inadvertently ran over two children’s feet Wednesday.

The children, one in first grade and the other in kindergarten, were waiting at a school bus stop at the time of the incident, said Rick Staly, Flagler County undersheriff.

The accident was reported at 8:15 a.m. at the intersection of Frontier Drive and Fountain Gate Lane. Firefighters treated one of the students at the scene. The other was transported to Florida Hospital Flagler, treated for minor bruising to the feet and released later the same day, Staly said.

Thomas Stopero, who operates a lawn maintenance service, did not stop after striking the children. He was located minutes later on Fortress Lane and charged with leaving the scene of an accident. Deputies said he was unaware that he hit anyone.
