Local military chaplain completes doctorate prior to deployment

The Rev. Tom Bingol, of Palm Coast, recently graduated with a Doctor of Ministry degree with a religion and technology focus, from the Lutheran Theological Seminary at Philadelphia.

Bingol served as pastor of St. Mark by The Sea Lutheran Church from Sept. 1, 1998, to Jan. 3, 2008, before returning to active duty as a chaplain in the U.S. Navy.

Bingol has served as a staff chaplain at the Naval Air Station in Jacksonville, command chaplain at the Navy Support Facility in Diego Garcia, in the British Indian Ocean Territory, and is presently assigned to the COMNAVSURFLANT Ministry Center. He deployed Aug. 10 as the chaplain for the USS Halyburton (FFG-40).
