In a pre-Halloween event, internationally renowned psychic-medium Jonna Carlson will be at Oceanside Grill, in Flagler Beach, 6 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 23. The event is being held in conjunction with the release of author Becky Pourchot’s young adult paranormal adventure, “Food for a Hungry Ghost,” set aptly in Flagler Beach.
In addition to the evening event, Carlson will offer readings at the BeachHouse Beanery on the following day, 6 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 24. Pourchot will be there to sign books as well.
The two women met several years ago while Pourchot was doing research on the reported haunting of the National Mustard Museum in Middleton, Wisconsin.
“When I met Jonna, I liked her right away,” said Pourchot. “She has this ability to be quite serious and focused during her readings but then a minute later have everyone laughing.”
Not surprisingly, Carlson has acquired the nickname “The Happy Medium.”
“Food for a Hungry Ghost” is the story of Gala Rhyce, a teenage girl living in Flagler Beach who has reluctantly acquired the ability to speak with a dead girl who resides in her new home. The resident ghost is a pushy, 16-year-old with a fashion sense trapped in the 1980s and who has clearly been bound to Rhyce’s house for way too long. In spite of the ghost’s demands, the girls quickly become friends — that is until Rhyce learns that being friends with a dead girl is never a good thing.
