As guests found their tables Saturday, Oct. 6, they were serenaded by a barbershop quartet singing classic 1940s music. This set the mood for the eighth-annual Black and White Ball put on by the Friends of Flagler, formerly known as the Friends of the Domestic Violence Task Force.

The USO-themed event, held at the Italian American Club, raised money for victims of domestic violence in Flagler County. The raffle money was specifically raised for a family that took in three child victims so they would not be separated. The mother and the children are all victims of physical and sexual abuse.

At the event, four individuals were also recognized for their assistance with the group and the event. Those individuals were Melanie and Jim Bolling, for their volunteer efforts and the handmade items they donate to the raffle; Ilene Vitale, for her continuous help setting up events; and Tim Rippy, for donating his musical talent for the past few years.

In 2013, the Friends of Flagler will host events in April, July and October.
