STUDENT ART
Flagler Palm Coast High School senior Allison Adams created an 18-by-20 acrylic on canvas painting,  titled "A Grand View,” in Monica James’ class. Adams won second place in the FPC Art Show and third place in a Flagler County Art League show. She has played saxophone in the band for seven years, since the sixth grade, and her work was selected for auction at the Flagler County Free Clinic Gala event in 2011. Adams is planning to go to college to study illustration. She is also volunteering her time to paint a bird house that will be donated to Flagler Habitat for Humanity, which will be auctioned to benefit the organization.

+Bunnell FFA attends leadership conference
The Bunnell Sr. FFA chapter recently attended the Chapter President’s Conference.

This conference brought together chapter officers from around Florida, and focused on helping the officers plan a successful and eventful year. The state officers also worked on self-confidence, devotion, growth and service — all key points to being an officer and learning to keep your eye on the prize and accomplish the goals that are set.

The Florida FFA Association is a premier youth, leadership organization with 16,000 middle and high school student members as part of more than 300 local FFA chapters across the state. FFA members participate in nearly 50 leadership and career development events each year. The FFA mission is to make a positive difference in the lives of students by developing their potential for premier leadership, personal growth, and career success through agricultural education.

+Flagler County School District receives grant to reward teachers
The Flagler County School Board has been notified that the Northeast Florida Educational Consortium received a multi-million-dollar Teacher Incentive Fund Grant, in which Flagler County is one of nine counties in Northeast Florida that will benefit from these dollars.

The Sustainable Educator Evaluation and Compensation Project is a partnership between the North East Florida Educational Consortium, Gilchrist County School District, and eight other school districts committed to implementing a comprehensive human capital management system throughout the districts.

The objectives of the SEEC Project are to increase student growth in core subject areas, increase graduation rates, improve educator performance and compensation, and improve assessment systems for student growth and educator practices.
 
+Bunnell Elementary starts running club
To combat childhood obesity, Bunnell Elementary School coach Kristen Winne has created a running and fitness club for young female and male students.

Girl Power takes place during the fall semester of the school year and is open to females in fifth and sixth grades. The purpose of the program is to promote physical activity and healthy lifestyles. The students will have the opportunity to improve running knowledge and skills, muscular strength, and meet peers who enjoy the same activity. The program is designed for goal setting, giving children a feeling of success, and to be a self-esteem builder.

The school will be offering Guy Power to male students in fifth and sixth grades in the spring.
 
+FPC Future Business Leaders support breast cancer awareness
The Future Business Leaders of America club at Flagler Palm Coast High School is starting its Breast Cancer Awareness Month campaign Oct. 12.

Contributions will be going to the Florida Hospital Flagler Foundation to help Flagler County residents. The group is encouraging everyone to wear pink to FPC's Oct. 12 homecoming football game, which kicks off at 7 p.m., when the Bulldogs host University.

The club will be selling Otis Spunkmeyer cookies, bracelets, and other items during the game. During the week of Oct. 15, there are various events planned to raise awareness and funds.

+Harvest Hoe Down set for Bunnell Elementary
The Bunnell Elementary School PTO is sponsoring a Harvest Hoe Down 5-9 p.m. Oct. 12, at the school.

Bunnell Elemnentary School students, family and friends are welcome to attend. This year, students will be able to enjoy games run by their classroom teachers, pony rides, a bounce house, the Bunnell Fire Department, and a dunk tank run by Bunnell Elementary School Future Problem Solvers.
