More than 100 middle and high school band students gathered Saturday, March 17, to perform a concert put together after just three days of rehearsal. The concert was the culmination of hard work at the third-annual Flagler County Honor Band Weekend.

The all-county bands worked under the instruction of two guest directors from Winter Springs, Adam and Monique McIntyre.

“It is far better than normal band, very good conducting and teaching — there is less time in between instruction,” said honor band first-timer and Matanzas sophomore Austin Stanley, who has played bass trombone for five years.

Not only is it a time to learn from new directors, but also to improve skills such as sight reading, which is the case for FPC’s Miranda Kuleski, who hopes to one day be a music educator.

But it’s not all about the music.

“It’s fun being able to meet new people and play with people from other schools,” said Ally Erickson, of Buddy Taylor Middle School. “My favorite part about band is the friendships you get to make.”
