The Flagler County Art League will bring something a little extra to its Second Saturday exhibit, The People Show.

The league has joined with the Palm Coast Arts Foundation, the Flagler Youth Orchestra and the Flagler Playhouse to launch A Taste of the Arts, which sold out almost a week early. The event will be a progressive look at the arts March 10, beginning at the art league gallery and ending at the playhouse. At the gallery, guests will be treated to a preview of The People Show, a performance by the Flagler Youth Orchestra, and Italian-themed hors d’oeuvres.

From there, ticketed attendees will move to the Flagler Playhouse for a private performance of “Over the River and Through the Woods,” a comedy about a young man whose two sets of Italian grandparents try to influence him about a life-changing decision. Italian desserts and coffee will be served at intermission.

This is the first time the arts groups have worked together for an event of this kind, which Joyce Gatonska, vice president of marketing for the art league, believes will raise awareness about the variety of arts in Flagler County.

Proceeds from the event will go toward planning another collaborative effort.

The People Show will open to the general public 6-9 p.m. Saturday, March 10, at the FCAL gallery, 160 Cypress Point Parkway, Suite 207C.

The show is a celebration of people of all ages, in all settings. Artwork will be in all fine arts media.

In this show, the art league hopes to challenge its artists to go beyond the typical portrait and capture life in a meaningful way, Gatonska said.

Local artist Peter Cerreta (click here for a story on his own retrospective show, at Hollingsworth Gallery) will judge the show. The awards presentation will be at 7 p.m. and the show will continue through April 10.
