Emergency workers also demonstrated equipment to Sunshine Academy students.
Firehouse Subs franchisers Melinda and David Hause, presented Flagler County Fire Rescue with a more than $10,000 donation of emergency training equipment Thursday, July 19, in front of their store at 1475 Palm Coast Parkway.
The Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation grant was applied for by the county through Bullex International Extreme Trainers Package, a fire extinguisher training system. The system will allow firefighters to teach community members proper extinguisher use, through hands-on instruction.
“You never know when you or someone close to you will be personally impacted by … a first responder,” said David Hause. “These heroes deserve the best tools, training and technology, and our foundation is here to help make that happen.”
Since 2005, Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation has donated more than $924,900 to public safety groups in Florida.
“It’s going to help us train more people and save us money,” Fire Rescue Chief Don Petito said of the donation.
To raise funds, each restaurant recycles pickle buckets and sells them to guests for $2. Canisters are also set up in store for spare change, and the sub shop’s “round-up” program allows guests to round their bill up to the nearest dollar, with the extra going to the foundation.
