This Weekend: Flagler Youth Orchestra to perform

Members of the Flagler Youth Orchestra will perform 7 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 14, in the Palm Coast United Methodist Church’s Youth Music Festival, held in the sanctuary, at 5200 Belle Terre Parkway.

Caren Umbarger will conduct the Flagler Youth Orchestra’s 25-piece Harmony Chamber Orchestra with a program featuring music by Corelli, Strauss and Mendelssohn.

There will be free childcare and parking assistance provided.

A freewill donation is encouraged. A reception with the members of the orchestra will follow the concert.

January Bird Walk — 8:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 14, at Washington Oaks Gardens State Park, 6400 N. Oceanshore Blvd. Meet at the main parking lot at 8:30 a.m. Park admission is $5 per vehicle (up to 8 people) or $4 per single occupant. Correct change required. Ladies Auxiliary Book Fair — 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 14, at Elks Lodge 2709, 53 Old Kings Road. Hardcover books are $1 and soft cover books are 50 cents.

Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration — 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 14, at the Carver Community Center, 201 E. Drain Street, Bunnell. The day will begin with a “Freedom March” departing from the community center, followed by a ceremonial tribute. Organizational participation only requires R.S.V.P. Individual or small groups need not R.S.V.P. to participate. Email [email protected] or call 338-7180.

Second Saturday Gamble Jam — 3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 14, at the Intracoastal Pavilion at Gamble Rogers Memorial State Recreation Area. Musicians of all levels are encouraged to bring instruments and a chair to join the circle for a casual acoustic jam session. Feel free to bring snacks and non-alcoholic drinks. Palm Coast Half Marathon — 8 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 15, at European Village, 101 Palm Harbor Parkway. Participants can compete in a half marathon, a 5K Run/Walk or a Family Fun Run. If you are interested in becoming a sponsor, call 986-2341. To register to run, log onto www.palmcoastgov.com.
