Ocean Publishing and Nerdz Comics are joining together to showcase the artwork of 18-year-old high school student Kelly Kryspin in “Ocean Pop,” 6 p.m. Friday, Feb. 10, at 200 S. Oceanshore Blvd., Flagler Beach.

“I was so impressed by her acrylic creatures, each with its unique personality,” Frank Gromling, Ocean Publishing owner, said. “I knew right away that Kelly deserved her own art opening at our gallery.”

While Ocean Publishing’s gallery has featured relative newcomers to the local art scene, such as Rick Cannizzaro and Elizabeth Brody-Hastings, this is the first time Gromling has arranged an art opening for a high school student.

Kryspin lives in Palm Coast; studied at Douglas Anderson School of the Arts, in Jacksonville; now attends both Flagler Palm Coast High School and Daytona State College; and plans to study animation at Savannah College of Art and Design.

Kryspin has won several art awards and received the Color Pencil Society Scholarship for 2011. Her artistic influences are Patrick Maxcy, Maxfield Parrish and Andy Warhol.

Ocean Publishing’s gallery will feature Kryspin’s wildlife collection, and Nerdz Comics will showcase her pop culture collection.

All paintings will be acrylic on canvas, ready for framing, and the artist will be in attendance.

Guitarist Alex Ceserani will provide music. Refreshments will be served.
