Spa Floridian donated 65 free haircuts to Flagler County students in need.

Sixty-five Flagler County students in need received free haircuts Monday, Aug. 13, at Spa Floridian.

The donation of the back-to-school haircuts was organized by stylist Olga Soltero, who partnered with Flagler County Schools Student Services.

Soltero, who was once a single mom with three boys, said she knows how difficult it can be to get a child ready for the first day of school.

“Appearance has a lot to do with it,” she said.

This year’s haircuts were a continuation of an annual service that Soltero began last year, while working at Sophisticated Hair Studio.

The day could not have happened without salon owner Josie Garcia and Katrina Townsend, director of student services for Flagler School. Townsend identified homeless and needy families in the county who would benefit from the service.

“It’s just a blessing that they are able to do this,” said a woman in the waiting room, while two of her foster children received haircuts.

For Soltero, the smile on the children’s faces when they look in the mirror is the best payment she can get.

“I find that my blessing comes from above,” Soltero said. “God blessed me with this gift, and I want to pay it forward to another child.”

Community partners involved were Firehouse Subs, The S.T.U.F.F. Bus and Casa de Alabanza.
