The Flagler County Housing Authority will sponsor a Total Health Fair: Body, Mind, Spirit and Community event 10 a.m. Saturday, April 14, at 414 S. Bacher St., in Bunnell.

The fair aims to promote a healthier, more productive lifestyle for the young, old and disabled by offering fitness information, free health screenings, nutritional assessments and more.

More than 20 health care agencies and organizations — including the Flagler County Health Department, University of Central Florida School of Nursing, Flagler County Senior Services, Flagler County Extension Service, Flagler County Schools, Easter Seals, Carver Gym, the Flagler County Sheriff’s Department Victims Advocate and Easter Seals — will be participating in this inaugural event.

Healthy cooking recipes and samples will also be offered, in addition to a two-mile “Walk for the Health of It” adult walk and a Smart-Heart-a-Thon exercise marathon for youth.

There will be crafts and activities provided by local churches, as well.
A little less on the healthy side, the county has also announced its fourth-annual firefighters’ chili cook-off, scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday, April 28.

Closing with a live concert 7 p.m. at the Flagler County Airport’s Fire Station 92, the cook-off has a $25 entry fee per team, with cash prizes of $100 for first place, $50 for second and $25 for third.

Tickets for the event, sponsored by the Flagler Couny Professional Firefighters Local 4337, are $15 for adults and $5 for children.
