+ Consumer spending up 4.7% in Flagler County
According to an update of the county’s sales tax statistics, consumer spending is on the rise in Flagler County.

The statistics show Flagler County taxable sales increasing $15,701,018, or 4.67%, from January to June of this year, compared to the same timeframe in 2010.

In 2009, Palm Coast showed 8.51% gains, while Flagler County as a whole dropped 6.28%.

“We continue to see a positive trend in Palm Coast, and the county-wide numbers are also looking good,” Palm Coast City Manager Jim Landon said. “As we continue to support our local businesses, hopefully these growth numbers will mean added jobs.”

+ Masked men from Flagler arrested for armed robbery
Kenneth Jenkins Jr., 25, of Bunnell, and Thevalian Watson, 30, and Freddie Giddens Jr., 31, both of Palm Coast, were arrested Sept. 6 in a chase involving the Ormond Beach and Bunnell police departments, and the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office. The men were charged with armed robbery.

According to a police report, the three men arrived at a Volusia County pharmacy Sept. 6, wearing masks. They forced two victims to the ground and bound their hands and feet, stealing cash and pain medication.

An employee at a nearby salon called 911 with a description of the men and their vehicle, which led to their arrest near a wooded area at the end of Zoeller Court, in Palm Coast.

The three men, each with a criminal history in Flagler County, were jailed Sept. 6 — all within eight hours of the holdup.

+ 64-year-old arrested for firing shotgun in P-section
Flagler County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested 64-year-old Patrick Kilichowski Sept. 9 after shots were fired outside his Palm Coast home. Witnesses told deputies that Kilichowski became angry that his girlfriend was outside their home on Plainview Drive, talking with neighbors.

Deputies said a neighbor approached Kilichowski, who pointed the gun at the neighbor’s stomach. The neighbor took hold of the firearm, moving it away from his body; that’s when Kilichowski pulled the trigger, firing a shot into the ground.

Kilichowski was charged with four counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and other charges.

+ Roker’s BMX track loses traction in Flagler County
Promoter Renny Roker wrote via email that signs are pointing to the building of his proposed BMX bicycle racing track in will be in another county, rather than in Flagler, because of lack of funding.

+ Flagler airport granted FAA funds for runway extension
U.S. Rep. John L. Mica announced Sept. 7 that the Flagler County Airport was awarded a nearly $600,000 grant from the Federal Aviation Administration, which will pay for the design phase of one of the runways.

Flagler County Board of County Commissioners — the next regular meeting is 5 p.m. Monday, Sept. 19, at the Government Services Building.

Flagler County School Board — the next meeting is 6 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 20, at the GSB.
• The next special meeting is 2 p.m. Monday, Sept. 26, at the GSB.
• School Board member John Fischer’s next town hall meeting is 6:15 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 28, at the Flagler County Public Library.
