Three Flagler Palm Coast High School art students received scholarships from Full Sail University, worth $35,000 each.

Taylor Max, Christie Lamphere, and Tanginique Graham were selected to attend the entertainment-media university as part of a pilot program, The Best and Brightest Scholarship.

“To get $35,000 each to go to a school like that, it says a lot for what type of program we have here,” said Ed Beckett, photography and graphic design teacher at FPC.

“It’s kind of like a real feather in the cap for what we’ve been trying to do. (The graphic design program has) only been around for four years, and it’s neat to see that we’re getting recognized, and it means a lot to me. It means an awful lot to me,” he said.

Beckett was one of two teachers selected in the Central and North Florida areas to nominate students for the scholarship.

“I really felt that Mr. Beckett, as well as this entire art department were a great resource for some of the best students out there,” said Jim Makowski, regional admissions representative at Full Sail. “We selected teachers that displayed a really great example of not only teaching but their style of teaching, their advocacy for Full Sail and their advocacy for students persuing their passion.”

Max, Lamphere and Graham will be part of the digital arts and design program at the university. The program is a mix of graphic design, web design, computer animation and film.
