St. Mark by the Sea Lutheran Church installed the Rev. Pam Northrup May 1 at a service of Holy Communion and Order of Installation.

The Rev. Art Weurtz, a dean of the Florida Bahamas Synod of the ELCA conducted the service. The Rev. Paul Lutze, assistant to the synod bishop, delivered the homily assisted by the Rev. James Rave and the Rev. Charles Weinrich. Members of the Palm Coast clergy were also in attendance.

Pastor Northrup came to Saint Mark by the Sea from Southern Pines, N.C., where she served as associate pastor at Our Saviour Lutheran Church for about five years. She is a second-career pastor with more than 15 years of work experience in education and staff development.

She graduated with honors from Lutheran Theological Seminary in Columbia, S.C., in May 2006.

Northrup and her husband, Bob, have been married for 31 years. They have two adult children, Amanda, a fifth-grade teacher in North Carolina and Becky, a personnel recruiter in Tampa.

Cliff Smith, Church Council president, stated that “Pastor Pam,” as she is affectionately called by the congregation, brings the enthusiasm and strong spiritual leadership necessary to expand the church’s mission.

Northrup commented that she is impressed with Saint Mark by the Sea and the quality of life in Palm Coast.

“Palm Coast is a beautiful city that exudes peacefulness and tranquility,” she says. “I love being able to stroll through the many parks and walkways one day and relaxing at the beach the next day.

“As I learned about the people and ministries of Saint Mark by the Sea, I was impressed by the high degree of commitment and excitement the members of the church showed for their future. They admitted that even though they’ve been through a rough time in the past couple of years, they are eager to embrace a new future and to see what God is up to in the ministries. Their trust and faithfulness in God is contagious."

Northrup began her ministry at Saint Mark by the Sea on April 3.
