Results are in for the state and district’s FCAT Writing exam scores. Although writing scores offer only a taste of overall district performance — reading and math scores won’t come in until June— the numbers illustrate "very positive" trends, according to Testing Coordinator Jim Devine.

Compared with 2010’s results, the average writing score for Flagler County’s fourth- and 10th-grade students rose. The mean score of county eighth-graders did not change.

The percentage of students who scored a 4.0 or higher, on a grading scale of 0 to 6, increased in all grade levels, as well. Fourth grade raised its four-or-over percentage 12 points, from 73% to 85%. Tenth grade raised its percentage four points. Eight grade raised its percentage by three.
