Successful donation drives yielded an extremely triumphant Palm Coast Arbor Day event in 2011. The May 7 event and road race generated the following:

- $385 for the Flagler Youth Center from the community sale of canned goods
- 1,820 pounds of food for local food banks
- 700 trees donated to residents to beautify the community

At Palm Coast City Council’s June 7 meeting, two race awards for Arbor Day were presented: Palm Coast’s Thrive Fitness received the corporate award for having more runners in the 5K Root Run than any other business in the city.

Palm Coast resident Joshua Gilliam, 7, received the best costume award for his creative rendition of Mr. Incredible in the One Mile Flutter Fun Run. A grand total of 205 runners participated in the Arbor Day run/walk events.

“With expanded activities at this year’s event, so many more residents and organizations were able to actively partake in the fun and enjoy the day,” said Carol Bennett, the city’s urban forester. “We’re looking forward to donating even more food and distributing more trees at many more future Arbor Day events.”
