A new automated computer system is being installed at the Flagler County Public Library, and will make the library more user-friendly by providing easier access to library materials.

The system, called Polaris, will go live Wednesday, April 13, and Library Director Holly Albanese said the new system will allow patrons to view their library account and renew and reserve items from home, the office or a cell phone.

As the library installs the new system, operation at the library will be limited from April 7 to April 12, Albanese said.

“We will only be able to check-out and check-in material and register new patrons,” she said. “No other activity, including paying fines or fees, reserving or renewing, will be available.”

With the new system, card holders will have the ability to browse and search hundreds of titles from their home computers or even their phones, said County Administrator Craig Coffey.

The public is invited to the premier of the Polaris system Wednesday, April 13. A light lunch will be served at the all-day event.

The library will open at 9 a.m. and have a dedication of the new system. Patrons are invited to come for a guided tour of the new features offered.
