Flagler County beaches were home to 179 turtle nests in 2009, according to turtlepatrol.com.

The Volusia/Flagler Turtle Patrol is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the protection and conservation of those sea turtles and their nests.

The Turtle Patrol will hold its primary fundraiser, Turtle Fest, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, April 2, at Veterans Park, Flagler Beach.

There will be live music, food, environmental exhibits and giant tortoise races. The event is free and open to the public.
