Jeremias George closed Seabreeze’s annual red and white spring football scrimmage with a long touchdown catch from rising junior Michael “Bearhog” McDonough. The quarterback had been long on a couple of deep passes before hitting George in stride.
“He got it right,” coach Mike Klein said. “He missed a couple, and that's what I told the guys at the end, we got to get consistent in what we're doing, because football is all about eliminating mistakes more than it is making plays. So that's going to be our big theme going into our last week, consistency.”
Seabreeze held the red and white scrimmage on its practice field at the school on Saturday morning, May 16. Drills and the scrimmage followed a picnic pancake breakfast. The offense wore red jerseys and the defense wore white. There were big plays made on both sides of the ball.
The Sandcrabs will see how much progress they've made this spring when they meet Flagler Palm Coast at 7 p.m. Friday, May 22, at FPC’s stadium.
It’s been a very productive spring. We've come a long ways going into our second year of our offense with our offensive coordinator being here, coach Matt Dickmann. Our [players are] really starting to get comfortable with the plays and the formations.

“It’s been a very productive spring,” Klein said. “We've come a long ways going into our second year of our offense with our offensive coordinator being here, coach Matt Dickmann. Our [players are] really starting to get comfortable with the plays and the formations.”
George, entering his senior year, will be a weapon for the Sandcrabs. He rushed for 501 yards and four touchdowns and caught four passes for 67 yards last season.
McDonough is competing at quarterback with rising sophomore Noah Bagdonowicz.
“They are both playing pretty well,” Klein said. “And we've got a couple of great tight ends in the mix and some good skill players. Danny Spada at the receiver position has taken a huge step this off season, and our O-line’s improved.”
They have a couple of athletes from other sports who are performing well in the defensive backfield, Klein said. Sprinter KJon Willis from the track team, and basketball player AJ Brown are both playing cornerback. Free safety Jace Perez has been the Sandcrabs’ most consistent player in the secondary this spring, Klein said. But the team’s defensive strength might be up front.
“Our defensive line is playing very strong right now,” Klein said. “And we've got linebackers that are playing very smart with great understanding of their fits, playing physical.”
Perhaps the Sandcrabs' biggest improvement so far came before spring practice even started.
“Physically, we weren’t quite as strong as a lot of teams we played [last year],” Klein said. “But we had a great offseason. Everybody got stronger. Everybody put on 10 to 20 pounds. Now, we'll be able to match up. We have plenty of work to do, but I’m really excited. We’ve improved a lot.”
Seabreeze was 5-5 in Klein’s second season last year. This year, the Sandcrabs are aiming to finish with a winning record for the first time since 2021.
