Flagler Palm Coast's youth soccer camp, held June 8-12, had a World Cup theme to mark the beginning of the quadrennial world soccer tournament. Each day of the camp ended with mini 3v3 tournaments with players picking countries to represent.
Eleven campers, in the 5-13 age groups, participated. Each day featured a different skill set — dribbling, passing, first touch and shooting, with the last day designated as a fun day.
"A good chunk [of the campers] were seventh and eighth graders who will be future Bulldogs and played at a decent level, so it was cool to see what the future looks like, and the future looks bright," said FPC boys soccer coach Ramtin Amiri, who ran the camp with help from assistants and FPC girls and boys varsity players. "We also got kids from all levels and ages and we made sure they had a good experience and learned something before they left us at the end of the week."
Four campers won World Cup facsimile trophies. The campers collected medals based on points for games and drills they won or performed well in. Ivan Chen and Kason Davis each won a World Cup trophy for collecting the most medals. The other trophy winners were Shawn Mochizuki, who was named Camper of the Week, and Roman Pappano, who was named Most Improved Camper.
